A Invitation to Lent

The season of Lent begins forty days before Easter with the celebration of Ash Wednesday. Historically, Lent has been a time where Christians around the world focus on repentance, penitence, and preparation, renewing practices of prayer, fasting, and generosity. Instead of fasting for a meal, some people “give up” a food group (i.e. meat) or a habit (i.e. checking social media). If you are new to observing the season of Lent, this article may be helpful to you. Paul Burkhart, our Youth Director, wrote up this helpful overview.

This year we are encouraging our community to read a book together - E. K. Strawser, Centering Discipleship (2023). This provocative and practical read will help us reflect this Lent on how we can grow in Christlikeness and share our faith more meaningfully with others. Read it on your own this Lent, and then let’s discuss the book together on April 7th.

Our deacons also lead us each Lent in taking up an Easter Sacrificial Offering. You can reach about the organizations we’ll support with this year’s offering here.

May God bless us this Lent as we journey together in the Way of Jesus.
