Youth Ministry Coordinator
Reports to: Pastor of Formation
Work Hours: 13 hours/week
Start Date: August 1, 2019
Minimum Commitment: 2 Years
City Church was started in the University City neighborhood of West Philadelphia in 2006 as a missional initiative of Redeemer City to City. In 2015 we became a congregation of the Reformed Church in America (RCA), and in 2017, we launched a second, missional initiative in the Fairmount neighborhood.
We are a congregation that takes the gospel of Christ seriously in our worship, spiritual friendship with one another, and missional partnerships for the common good of Philadelphia and the world. The Youth Ministry Coordinator will have the support of the City Church staff and congregation, especially through the youth families and the ministry team. This support will include regular check-ins that will focus on your spiritual and pastoral growth as much as on performance and reporting. The youth families actively partner with the youth ministry team to support the ministry and facilitate congregationally-focused fundraisers. The Youth Ministry Coordinator can expect an atmosphere of growth and learning with opportunities to engage the congregational youth, the city, and beyond.
The Youth Ministry Coordinator will take a lead role in the spiritual formation of our middle and high school youth in order that they experience the grace, hope, and purpose of the gospel.
The candidate for this position will possess strong personal understanding of the gospel and the ability to convey that to others. Also vital are leadership and interpersonal skills; especially problem-solving, team building, communication, and an awareness of the unique challenges of urban youth. The successful candidate will display understanding of city ministry dynamics, strong theological and biblical insight, and experience in living and working in a diverse community.
The expectation is that the director will work collaboratively with the City Church youth parents as well as the ministry volunteers.
