Children’s Ministry Coordinator

Reports to: Pastor of Formation
Work Hours: 20 hours/week
Start Date: September 1, 2019

City Church was started in the University City neighborhood of West Philadelphia in 2006 as a missional initiative of Redeemer City to City. In 2015 we became a congregation of the Reformed Church in America (RCA), and in 2017, we launched a second, missional initiative in the Fairmount neighborhood.

We are a congregation that takes the gospel of Christ seriously in our worship, spiritual friendship with one another, and missional partnerships for the common good of Philadelphia and the world. The Children’s Ministry Coordinator will have the support of the City Church staff and congregation, especially through the Family Ministries Team. This support will include regular check-ins that will focus on your spiritual and personal growth as much as on performance and reporting. The Children’s Ministry Coordinator can expect an atmosphere of growth and learning with opportunities to engage the children and families of the congregation and the city.

JOB OVERVIEW

The Children’s Ministry Coordinator will take a lead role in coordinating all ministry programs for children (infants - 5th grade), managing a team of ministry volunteers, and communicating regularly with children and parents.

The Children’s Ministry Coordinator will work collaboratively with the Pastor of Formation and the Family Ministries Team to oversee the spiritual formation of children and families, manage and distribute curricula, triage pastoral needs, and equip parents and ministry volunteers to better serve the children of the City Church community.

The candidate for this position will possess a strong personal faith in Christ and a love for children and families. Also vital are strong administrative, leadership, and interpersonal skills: especially volunteer management, team-building, problem-solving, and communication. The successful candidate will be highly organized and will display an understanding of childhood development, an aptitude for teaching children, and experience in living and working in a diverse community.

The expectation is that the Children’s Ministry Coordinator will participate fully in the community of the City Church staff and congregation and will participate in the Sunday worship service at least twice a month, on average.
