the whitefield society
George Whitefield was an Oxford-educated Anglican pastor who played a formative role in the early American colonies. He had an abiding friendship with Benjamin Franklin, who was so deeply impressed with his intellect and his passion for serving the poor that he published and circulated Whitefield's writings, though he did not share his faith. As a tribute to his influence in the founding of the University of Pennsylvania, a statue of Whitefield remains in the Quadrangle Dormitories on which are inscribed the words: "Humble Disciple of Jesus Christ, Eloquent Preacher of the Gospel."
Through personal transformation and fostering Christ-centered community, The Whitefield Society seeks to help students discover their calling and to use their gifts to serve the campus and the city. Its vision is to see students renewed by the good news of Christ's resurrection and empowered to live by the Spirit within their sphere of relationships and in their chosen majors.
